"Grow A Row"

Garden Share is a FOOD Share community-based effort that encourages neighborhoods to grow produce to help feed the hungry of Ventura County.

During WWI and WWII, growing Victory Gardens became a necessity to supplement community food supplies. Now, decades later, the idea of sustainable backyard and community gardens is at the forefront--with neighbors sharing a common goal: helping feed the hungry in our community.

The official sponsor of Garden Share is Agromin, one of California's largest organics recyclers. Agromin diverts green materials collected from every community in Ventura County destined for landfills and converts them into more than 200 types of sustainable, eco-friendly soil products including: clean green compost, mulch and soil amendments. As Garden Share's official sponsor, Agromin is providing 25% discounts on select soils purchased by Garden Share volunteers who grow and donate food to FOOD Share.

In addition, Agromin and FOOD Share will select annual winners of a “Pounds for Produce” contest. Winners will be selected based how much produce they grow in one of six categories (potatoes, tomatoes, celery, onions, broccoli and citrus). Category winners will receive free Agromin soil on a pound-for-pound basis equal to the total weight of produce they donated.

Here's your chance to make a difference by growing a row, AND by using sustainable garden practices that close the green recycling loop.

FOOD Share and Agromin have made it fun and easy to get started with a free Garden Share member program that includes incentives, discounts on the soil you need to start your garden, and how-to tips and support to set you on the path to grow a garden to help feed our hungry.  Together we can help - one garden at a time - one neighborhood at a time.
