Smokey’s House of BBQ hosts fundraiser for FOOD Share

Guests bringing in three cans of food and/or $10 for FOOD Share will receive complimentary house dessert through April 30.

Now open in the new Sea Bridge Marketplace in Oxnard off Victoria Avenue and Wooley Road, Smokey’s House of BBQ is hosting a two-week fundraiser to benefit FOOD Share, Ventura’s regional food bank, from April 13 – 30.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the community and want to help others by giving back through our restaurant,” says Mike Christian, founder of Smokey’s House of BBQ. “FOOD Share does so much for so many and we want to bring awareness to its missions and goals to help feed those in need.”

Customers are encouraged to bring three cans of food and/or $10 each to Smokey’s April 13-30. In exchange, diners will receive a free Big Easy desert, homemade warm bread pudding with berries topped with caramel pecan sauce and ice cream.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, Smokey’s menu has something for every taste – even a kids menu to accommodate families with a wide variety of selections – from East to West coasts and everywhere in between.

Smokey’s Southern Breakfast, served from 8 to 11am, includes full breakfast platters, create your own omelettes, smoked beef brisket hash, country Benedict, biscuits and gravy or breakfast burritos all served with skillet potatoes or fresh fruit.

Specialty entrees include Smokey’s strawberry and banana pancakes with a touch of brandy, Susan’s Special Stuffed French Toast, and Smokey’s Famous Carrot Cake French Toast – slices of the House carrot cake dipped in batter and grilled then served with a scoop of cream cheese and syrup. Kid’s breakfast items range from an egg scramble to pancakes.

For lunch, served from 11 am to 4 pm, a “Smokin’” fast express lunch menu, served in about 10-minutes, includes a half sandwich and soup or green salad among others. Consider chili con queso, fresh catfish fingers, hot wings, or Smokey’s chili fries for starters or add a cup of homemade soup, Texas all-meat chili or a fresh salad.

In the mood for a burger or sandwich? Smokey’s has that covered, too. The Georgia Pulled Pork Po’Boy is fork-tender smoked southern-style pork roast, shredded and tossed in House sauce and served up on a baguette topped with coleslaw. Brisket, tri-tip, chicken and Cajun catfish also are served with two sides: BBQ beans, coleslaw, or French or sweet potato fries.

House specialties, and Smokey’s claim to fame, include “It’s the Whole Catfish” – whiskers and all – a whole fresh catfish rolled in seasoned cornmeal and deep-fried with all the trimmings. In the category of meats, however Smokey’s is king. Try the popular St. Louis spare ribs, baby back ribs, beef ribs, combo platters, country smoked chicken, Texas beef brisket or BBQ tri-tip – are all slow smoked to perfection.

The restaurant regularly features live regional and local performers and entertainment, adding to its growing appeal and ambiance. “The Sea Bridge Marketplace has a wonderful built-in amphitheatre right along the waterway and it is a perfect venue to host a concert series, which I hope to do this summer,” Christian says.

Smokey’s House of BBQ is open from 8am – 9pm Sunday through Thursday and until 10pm Friday and Saturday.

It is at 1201 S. Victoria Avenue on the corner of Wooley Road in Oxnard. For more information, call 805-985-7125, or visit the website at www.smokeyshouseofbbq.com.
