March to End Hunger month aims to re-stock FOOD Share´s shelves It was a last minute call to action by VONS regional offices, one in which all 23 Ventura County Vons store managers and employees readily supported. The one-day food drive on March 7 to benefit FOOD Share, Ventura County´s regional food bank, brought in a total of $1,600 and more than 9,000 lbs. of food that will immediately be distributed through FOOD Share´s warehouse in Oxnard and its 150 partner agencies and food pantries throughout the county who serve nearly 40,000 people each month. "Our customers really came through for FOOD Share," said Daymond Rice, director, Public Affairs and Government Relations for Vons. "As a large food company, we are in a unique position to be at the forefront of hunger and we understand the difficulties food agencies are facing this year. We are thrilled at the results of this latest effort on their behalf." "We would like to thank everyone in our community who has donated food or funds to help FOOD Share provide food for the hungry," said Bonnie Weigel, CEO of FOOD Share. "We know that when everyone does just a little, great things can be accomplished." The Vons one-day food drive was a start to the special push to fill FOOD Share´s shelves in March.
